It is all underpinned by peat smoke to create a flavour that could be described as "vanilla ice cream at a beach bonfire". Savour it neat, add an ice cube or team it with seafood -- this 12 Year Old pairs extremely well with oysters. With its long and fascinating history as the original Islay malt, Bowmore is made according to the old whisky-making traditions created over 240 years ago when the distillery was born. The barley is still carefully smoked in Bowmore's proprietary malt barns, and hand-turned regularly. This is what gives this single malt its distinctive mild smoky taste. Bowmore 12 Year Old whisky is left to rest in some of the the finest ex-bourbon barrels. Each sip evokes the rugged land of Islay with its thrashing waves, windswept landscapes and generations of tradition. The Bowmore distillery has sat on the island's shores since 1779, just off the west coast of Scotland. Over the years, this expression of the whisky has won numerous awards: including Gold medals at San Francisco World Spirits Competition and Trophy and Gold at the International Spirit Challenge.
